Everyone Could Be Light Green

28 10 2007

A well conceived blog with regular features including “Live: From the Hard-Drive” and “Under the Covers.” ECLG sidesteps the super-cool rhetoric, succinctly showcases new music, and offers solid, useful information. Linked on the Blogroll.

The Petty Documentary

28 10 2007

This afternoon I watched Runnin’ Down a Dream, the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers documentary. Director Peter Bogdanovich keeps the story focused on the music and presents TP as an uncompromising artist who’s career was destined for greatness from the get go. Tom serves as the narrator and gives a chronological summary of his career with several amusing anecdotes. The imagery of the film is fantastic…lots of footage from the early days that’s fun to see. Most of the artists who worked with Petty are interviewed with the exception of Bob Dylan who’s seen only in live performances and a very brief clip with the Wilburys. Mike gets a lot of face time but there’s not much made of his contributions to the songs. The film’s a pleasure to watch and fans of the band will love it. Diehards and musicians will probably not learn anything new, but after all, we’ve got the songs and the band, what more could we ask for?

The Song In My Head Today

26 10 2007

Here’s a unique blog I discovered today. It’s written by Holly Hughes who regularly profiles great songs and gives her personal perspective. A nice idea and an enjoyable read.  Linked on the blogroll.

Close to the Bone

26 10 2007

Rolling through some of the alt. takes…this is a real early pass at Close to the Bone. I fleshed out an arrangement like this one to completion but ended up rearranging it at the last minute.

The final take is track 1 on the Box.net widget.

Canopy Zenon 11

25 10 2007

Somehow the trippy western version got labeled Canopy Zenon 11.  I’m not sure what that means but I kind of like the sound of it.

Canopy

24 10 2007

I worked on Canopy early towards the beginning then never came back to it. I’ve also got a version without the lyric which has a psychedelic-western feel.
