Here’s the master cut of Answer the Call. I recorded this version over a Kawari Studios here in Philadelphia. Adam Winokur and Matt Muir are really doing great work over there. During the session I took a dinner break and was planning to return and cut some more guitar. When I got back I was pleasantly surprised to find Kevin Hansen in the studio laying down a lead part. Kevin’s one of the best guitar players in Philly and it was a real treat to have him involved.
I was asked to write an anthem for The First 20 which is a non-profit dedicated to the health and fittness of the American Fire Fighter. The song will be sold as a download to raise money for The First 20. 100% of all the money’s gonna go directly to the cause. I’ll let you know when it’s available.
Weathervane has been included on a compilation cd in the UK. Smart Choice Music ’s “World of Americana” sampler is included in this month’s edition of Maverick Magazine. You can also get it free from SCM with a regular purchase. Here’s a link to more info.
This is really intimate. Lot’s of the old stuff on youtube is filmed from a distance in a tv studios. This is very close up and the sound is great.
Tuesday morning from 11-12, Xpn is going to be featuring me during their fund drive. Don’t know exactly what’s gonna be going on the air, just that a donor wanted a local artist to get some love. If you isten in Philly, you know it’s 88.5 fm, online its www.wxpn.org
Found out “Close to the Bone” got played on XPN yesterday on the Philly Local Pick. Thanks to Helen Leicht for the spin. WXPN’s Blog.
Colin Fielding featured Close to the Bone and Out of State Plates on his program from Australia. Folk and Roots is a stellar show on 96.5 FM, way down south towards Melbourne.
Here’s the demo we cut the other night for Answer the Call. We’re scheduled to cut the master in a few weeks for the First 20 promo. I’ll let you know when we’ve it together. Had a great time cutting this with Dennis Rambo, he’s a great musician and fantastic fella. We just threw up a fake drum kit and laid it down quick to get and idea of what we had. Spent most of the time telling stories. Dennis had the best one the night. I probably shouldn’t re-tell it here on the blog but I can say it involved a stolen Les Paul, a cast of seedy characters, and a member of one of the greatest bands ever. If you have occasion to cross paths with Dennis, you’ll have to ask him about it. This was a pretty quick session but the studio had some serious mojo and was full of all my favorite guitars. After working on the lyrical, ambient material for Cobblestone, it was fun to bust out a quick 3 chord rocker. Wouldn’t mind doing a few more like this before too long.
I didn’t realize so many days had passed since my last post. I was thinking it was about the middle of April… like the 14th or something. Guess I lost a week or so somewhere. A couple updates…I was in the studio last night cutting a demo for Anwer the Call, a new song for a Fundraising/Awareness effort which will benefit volunteer firefighters. I’ll let you know where to find more info as it comes together. Gonna be heading into the studio this weekend to cut a set of acoustic songs I’ve been singing for a couple years now. Stickfigure, Ohio, Tomboy and other songs cut from the same cloth. Sould have some of that available pretty soon. That’s what shaking here in Mt. Airy, Pa.
